about

Kellie Lewis has returned with her most emphatic work to date, the reflective yet thumping new single, ‘Flashback To 18’.
The song is an energetic pop-rock anthem, which
combines feelings of nostalgia and melancholy with those of independence and strength.

The instrumentation on the track immediately surprises and entices the listener to engage with the song. The pulsing guitar riff, which is later joined by strong drumming and bass rhythms helps to create a sense that this is going to be a song about reminiscing, but with an edge.

The track comes with a big sound that carries the listener throughout but never deflects from the track’s focal points, the subject matter, and Kellie’s distinct vocals.

The singer-songwriter describes it herself as “an ode to youth which reminisces about easier days gone by, and the understanding that a new chapter in life is approaching”. These are feelings captured perfectly in the song, with an atmospheric shimmering thread throughout the track, showcasing Kellie’s songwriting prowess.

lyrics

I left my home
When I was seventeen
Moved to a new city
Created a new scene
Leaving behind some old
Pieces of me
Had no room for them in my
New City of Dreams

Just a bus away
I’ll be ok
I’m just a bus away

Flashback to 18
Didn’t need a fake I.D
Had enough for a shot and a taxi
There was no in-between
Finding easy ways out
And new ways to fall down

Bring back those days

I made a home when I was 23
Moved to a new city
Bigger than I’d ever seen
Leaving behind some old pieces of me
Had no room for them in my
New City of Dreams

Just a flight away
I’ll be ok
I’m just a flight away

Flashback to 18
Didn’t need a fake I.D
Had enough for a shot and a taxi
There was no in-between
Finding easy ways out
And new ways to fall down

Bring back those days
I need an easy day
Bring back those days

Can feel it in the air
Try and shake it
Make it look like I don’t care
Don’t wanna chase it
Feel it in the Air
Pulling me away
Pulling me away
Ohh Ohh

Something in the air
I can feel it
Telling me come here
I can see it
Something in the air
Pulling me away
Ohh Ohh

Flashback to 18
Didn’t need a fake I.D
Had enough for a shot and a taxi
There was no in-between
Finding easy ways out
And new ways to fall down

Bring back those days
I need an easy day
Bring back those days
I need an easy day
